Remember His Works...and Celebrate!

In Psalm 105, we see the Biblical admonition to remember what God has done:
1 Oh, give thanks to the Lord! Call upon His name; Make known His deeds among the peoples! 2 Sing to Him, sing psalms to Him; Talk of all His wondrous works!    5 Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of His mouth...The prophet Samuel gives us a great example of remembering what God has done, an instance referenced in the hymn, "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing".   In 1st Samuel 7, we read that the Philistines came to provoke Israel into battle, and verse 10 says that...10...the Lord thundered with a loud thunder upon the Philistines that day, and so confused them that they were overcome before Israel. Israel drove the Philistines back, and we then see in verse 12 that...   12 Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and called its name Ebenezer, saying, "Thus far the Lord has helped us."

Ebenezer - a rock of remembrance, a tangible expression of marking and honoring the work of God.   Today, at Faith Radio, we "mark" an anniversary, a milestone - and I think it's helpful that from time-to-time we think back and relate those milestones in our own spiritual lives...and when we see where God has worked in our lives, we are swift, as Samuel was, to acknowledge Him, give Him the credit, and call attention to His greatness.

In Philippians chapter 3, we read these words that can challenge us to grow spiritually:
12 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. 13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

There are quite a few reasons to celebrate this week around Faith Radio.   We rejoice in the birth of a new baby boy, Callen Ezekiel Smith, to our "Morning Praise" host Jeremy Smith and his wife, Tiffany.   And, over 50 years ago this Sunday, Fred and Evelyn Crittenden celebrated the birth of a baby boy - that's pretty special to me, for sure.

And, today is the 29th birthday of the ministry of Faith Radio.   Actually, the seeds were planted months and years before, and God took our original founders on a journey of trust in Him, and He demonstrated His faithfulness.

I like how Rachel Fisher put it in the February edition of River Region's Journey magazine:
It had been nearly four years since a group of people realized a need to bring Christian radio broadcasting to Montgomery. After much prayer and persevering through numerous obstacles, the Federal Communications Commission finally granted their approval for a non-commercial radio license.

Still early in their journey, they decided on the call letters WLBF, which stand for “We live by faith.”  That same faith carried the radio station through the next several years as they acquired office space that was fully paid for before the ribbon cutting ceremony, boosted their coverage area and raised financial support.  Today, more than 30 years into their journey, Faith Radio has grown their reach and touched thousands of people through their unique mix of praise music, quality Bible teaching and local programming.

And there is something for everyone.

“When you look at our line up we have stayed true to 50% music and 50% teaching,” says Billy Irvin, the Director of Ministry Relations. “One of the most unique aspects is that we have live local programming as well as national programming.”

“We are selective in what we broadcast and take it seriously so we can give our listeners the very best,” explains Bob Crittenden, Director of Special Projects.

And, 19 years ago today, the Lord provided an answer to prayer for residents of the Andalusia area, a group of which had been praying together about bringing what was then "Faith 89" to their area.   We started with a small facility and expanded to a full-power station with its own set of call letters - WSTF, "We're Saved Through Faith".   We have had another increase in coverage through our "Power Up" initiative a few years ago, and we are so grateful for our listeners in South Alabama, as well as those who listen to WDYF - "We Deepen Your Faith" in Dothan and surrounding areas.   And, our translators in Eufaula, Jemison, Alexander City, and Sylacauga, plus our online outreach, complete the expansive ministry of Faith Radio.

It's good to be part of something that's growing.   It's been said that in the spiritual life, if you're not moving forward, because of the currents of the culture, you may be actually losing ground.   So, it's interesting that in Philippians chapter 3, we see the words of the apostle Paul translated, "press" or "press on".   We need to keep moving, our in the words of the soon-to-be central character of a new Pixar film, "keep swimming".   Swimming, spiritually speaking, against the waves of unbelief, compromise, and deception that are so prevalent today.

So, do you characterize yourself as "growing" in your walk with Christ?   Or have you reached critical mass or somehow think that you've arrived as a believer?   Our desire at Faith Radio is to help you know God and His truth and grow in that knowledge and your relationship with Christ.   We never really "arrive" in our walk in Christ, and we can be challenged each day to press on, to press forward in Him.   And, that goes for Faith Radio, too, and so many other ministries - we are constantly looking for ways in which we can clearly communicate in a compelling way His truth.  And, we want to report to you where and how God is working!
