Concepts of Communication

...with God

The Meeting House will come your way from National Religious Broadcasters today and tomorrow, and I'll have plenty of content from NRB in the days to come.   I was thinking about the topic of communication.   How we communicate with God can take on different forms, including prayer and worship.   I was looking as Psalm 118 and saw just a few ways in which we connect with our Lord:

Verse 1 - Thanksgiving: Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever.

4 - Delcaration: Let those who fear the LORD say: "His love endures forever."

5 - Heartfelt prayer: In my anguish I cried to the LORD, and he answered by setting me free.

14  - Singing Praise: The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.

15 - Shouting to God, proclamation: Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous: "The LORD's right hand has done mighty things!

21 - Thanksgiving for answered prayer: I will give you thanks, for you answered me; you have become my salvation.

24 - Expression of joy: This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

God wants us to communicate with Him, and He has ordained these and so many other ways to engage in a two-way manner of relating to Him.

...with others

A theme of NRB is "Extend Your Reach through Media" - that's a cornerstone of the ministry of Faith Radio, as God has given us powerful tools and resources in order to make His truth known.   And, I think God is calling each of us to "extend our reach" - as we communicate His love and grace, as we touch lives through our activity, and as we seek to exalt Him in all our ways.   In the Great Commandment, God tells us to love Him wholeheartedly and to love others abundantly.   In the Great Commission, He instructs us to "go".   We can be sensitive to God's Spirit to point us in the right direction and give us power to speak - and live - His truth.

In Proverbs 15, we can read some verses giving insight into the way we communicate:

1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

2 The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly.

4 The tongue that brings healing is a tree of life, but a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit.

7 The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so the hearts of fools.

By the way we speak and act, we demonstrate how much we have appropriated the character of Christ into our lives.   We all have great potential to "extend our reach" and influence the culture - and we can pray for God to open doors and empower us to bring honor to Him in our relationships with others.
