Adopted

We have a powerful companion who walks with us and teaches us to distinguish truth from error and who empowers us to know and walk in the ways of God. Jesus spoke about the Holy Spirit in John chapter 16:
13 However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come.
14 He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.
15 All things that the Father has are Mine. Therefore I said that He will take of Mine and declare it to you.

The world offers a wide variety of ideologies that run counter to the concepts that we find in Scripture. Some of the world's ways may even sound consistent with the Bible, but we have to be aware that not everything that claims to be divinely inspired originates from the throne of God; the Bible tells us that Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. We are called to walk in the true light, and can be confident that God goes with us to point us in the right direction.

In John chapter 17, we find Jesus in prayer, and He is praying for His disciples, those who follow Him; he says beginning in verse 14:
14 I have given them Your word; and the world has hated them because they are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
15 I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.
16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.

Her title seems innocuous enough: Director of Arts and Entertainment Engagement.  Sounds rather common in Hollywood culture, I would think.  But, when you consider that Caren Spruch has served in that position with the nation's largest abortion provider, it is certainly problematic.

Movieguide reported on Ms. Spruch's influence, saying: " Her primary job is to convince filmmakers to dissimulate about the reality of abortion and present murder as a casual procedure with no long-term consequences."  It quoted from a Refinery 29 story, which quoted Spruch as saying:

Planned Parenthood is proud to be a resource for the entertainment industry when it comes to accurate and sensitive portrayals of reproductive and sexual health. The way we collaborate with producers, directors, writers, and actors varies, but we can review scripts for medical and legislative accuracy, share the latest data, research, and messaging on reproductive and sexual health and legislative issues, arrange consultations with healthcare providers or educators, coordinate filming at Planned Parenthood health centers, generate storyline ideas, and provide T-shirts, posters, and other items for set design.
Gretchen Sisson, a sociologist at the University of California at San Francisco, is also quoted in the article, and told The Washington Post: “The potential of popular culture, and particularly television, is that it doesn’t need to wait for policy progress to happen. It’s an area where we can continue to do work, no matter who’s on the Supreme Court." The New York Times quoted Sisson as saying: “You’re definitely seeing more of the matter-of-fact ‘I am pregnant, I don’t want to be, I’m going to have an abortion,’” adding, “And it’s gone way up in 2019.”

A more recent Movieguide article related:

In 2021, Abortion Onscreen says there were “47 abortion plotlines on 42 television shows, with a mix of familiar demographic patterns, insights into what meaningful emotional support to loved ones having abortions looks like, and significant missed opportunities to depict the hardships that result from diminished access."

And the timing of the planned release of a new Kendrick Brothers film is quite good.  Movieguide reports that:

Filmmakers Alex and Stephen Kendrick praised Roe V. Wade’s overturning and say their upcoming movie LIFEMARK can help churches enter the abortion conversation with the necessary resources to aid mothers in need.

“We know that this is divine timing,” Stephen said. “With every film that we make, we spend months in prayer. The Lord told us to make this movie having no idea this decision would be coming. So in September, we want to encourage churches, any anyone that supports life, to leverage LIFEMARK to your advantage because it reminds you that this is a good decision.
LIFEMARK is a film that hits theaters for one week beginning September 9. Stephen Kendrick says: "This is a movie about providing hope, and it promotes adoption and reconciliation."  Adoption is such a powerful element of the pro-life movement, offering women in crisis pregnancies an opportunity to give birth to their children, and then have then incorporated into a loving home.

We have to understand that there are ideas that are being presented in our culture that tell a different story than the one we find in the Scriptures.  We have to be sensitive to those contradictions and reject them for our own lives and to speak God's truth, tell His story.  As we see from this information presented by Movieguide, there has been an intentional attempt to portray abortion as a valid alternative in an unwanted or crisis pregnancy.

At Faith Radio, we desire to be a trusted source of Biblically-based content and to counter the world's concepts, and I like to call attention to Christian communicators, like the Kendricks and so many others, who are dedicated to upholding truth and countering the world's narratives.  Our lives should demonstrate our commitment to showing a better way - a way of compassion, but not of compromise; a way of absolutes, rather than "third ways," that attempt to blend worldly ideas with a partial injection of Biblical truth.  It is time for bold declaration of the truth of Christ.
